Social anxiety disorder is an intense and persistent fear of one or more social or performance situations. A person fears that he will be judged or scrutinized by others in these situations and in turn it causes the individual such discomfort that they are significantly distressed about these situations on regular basis or the anxiety interferes with their ability to function.
There is a spectrum of social anxiety. There are some individuals who are just excessively shy on one end of the spectrum and on the opposite end there are other people who are paralyzed by their social anxiety to the point that it affects everything they do. No matter where you fall on this spectrum Healthy Behaviors of Westchester wants to help you. We offer both cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to address avoidance and negative thinking patterns that often keep people from going into social situations as well as social skills training to help people become more comfortable with being in different social or performance situations.
